A Whirlwind of Weeks
In the past weeks, I feel that I have grown immensely in my journalistic endeavors. Prior to the lessons we have covered thus far in JMS 220, I was not aware of many of the rules within AP Style. Surprisingly, I did not know much about quotations, numerals, or abbreviations. Coming into this course, I believed that my sense of grammar, spelling, and punctuation was strong. Although I am still confident in my abilities as a writer, I have learned that I have much room for growth in the area of professional, journalistic writing.
Through the teachings presented within this course, I have also found personal growth in my news briefs. Upon learning about news briefs, I had no idea how to prioritize different pieces of information and compile them into a simple, to-the-point journalistic piece. However, I feel that I am now ready to take on any news brief assignment. I am still working towards perfecting the art of attribution, as I have had no prior experience with learning the specifics of quotation within journalistic writing. Finally, I am looking forward to truly understanding how to incorporate social media as an outlet of professional journalism. I hope to become a social media manager and brand designer in the future, so I feel that our assignments on Twitter throughout this semester will definitely act as another push in the right direction toward my career goals.
